Fish Out Of Water

The Goethe-Institut has collaborated with global artists since 2019 to create Graphic Travelogues, a digital comics platform focused on travel. Recently, Goethe-Institut and St+art invited German artist Greta Von Richtofen and Indian artist Aashti Miller to create murals in Delhi’s Lodhi Art District and Chennai’s Kannagi Art District. The artists explored 'travel' from a broad perspective, especially during the pandemic when physical movement was restricted. They depicted 'traveling in the mind' as a universal journey beyond cultural or spatial limits.
The murals feature flying fish, birds, and local elements, symbolizing different travel modes and emphasizing discovery and diverse perspectives for a meaningful life. Local flora, fauna, and Mughal-inspired elements reflect a journey to the past through shared nostalgia. In Chennai, local references create an engaging narrative. The murals, differing in color and motifs, connect by showcasing imagination's power, bridging Chennai and Delhi conceptually.
As normalcy returns, Miller and Richtofen embrace the discomfort of change, turning it into a magical journey.
