Ukkadam Hyper Park
by St+art Team
The HyperPark project, part of the fourth Ukkadam Art District (UAD) edition, continues UAD's engagement with Ukkadam since 2020, blending public art with local culture and social themes. This collaboration with St+art India has led to a 2024 focus on a permanent, community-centered space to enhance impact.
HyperPark, a multipurpose park, transforms a former dumping ground into a vibrant community hub, addressing Ukkadam’s need for open areas. It prioritizes inclusivity for homemakers, children, and the broader community, shifting from murals to a lasting shared space and reinforcing St+art India’s commitment to placemaking.
Inspired by “tactical urbanism,” HyperPark uses sustainable materials like upcycled waste and recycled plastics. It features color-coded zones for study, play, interaction, relaxation, and community, supporting diverse activities.
The park’s design promotes interaction for all ages with play areas, ergonomic seating, and adaptable spaces, fostering belonging and shared ownership in Ukkadam’s urban landscape.
