Sans Serifs, No Letters

by Shoe

Niels Shoe Meulman, an Amsterdam artist, began tagging 'Shoe' in 1979 and became a graffiti legend by 18. In 2007, he created Calligraffiti, blending calligraphy and graffiti. His calligraphic paintings, part of international exhibitions and museum collections, evolved into Abstract Expressionism with calligraphic roots, contributing to the Abstract Vandalism movement. For this mural, Shoe painted a self-written poem for the first time, drawing on 35 years of writing experience. He combined his love for lettering, calligraffiti, and plants. Using traditional Indian brooms made of dry grass, Shoe highlighted nature as the original creator, with the artist as a catalyst. The piece integrates natural elements like brooms and calligraphy with urban graffiti.
