WHY

Daku’s installation, “WHY,” floated on Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar Lake as a massive question mark made from 300,000 plastic bottles. Commissioned for Hyderabad Design Week by the Government of Telangana, it addressed single-use plastic pollution, urging viewers to consider their role in the crisis. Known for impactful public art, Daku used this piece to highlight plastic’s impact on marine ecosystems. Lit by solar-powered LEDs, “WHY” was a constant reminder and a call for sustainable change, challenging daily habits and promoting alternatives to single-use plastics. Floating for a month, it engaged citizens, tourists, and civic bodies in discussions about a sustainable future.
