Shahu

by Sajid

Sajid Wajid Sheikh (1989) is a self-taught illustrator, visual artist, and graphic designer from Mumbai, India. Initially working in advertising, he began creating unique illustrations using shape and color, often exploring the surreal human psyche. His work is inspired by music, new media, and performance.

Sheikh uses patterns, portraiture, and typography to innovate contemporary graphic design. He has collaborated with brands like Facebook, Google, and PayPal. In 2018, he worked with St+art India Foundation and Beautiful Destination to transform a basketball court in Matunga with a vibrant mural. In Mahim, Sajid scaled his experimental illustration style into a mural, creating simplicity amidst chaos. His murals depict a king and queen arriving in Shahu Nagar with musical instruments, inspired by Indian miniature paintings but reimagined with geometric lines and royal blue. This symbolizes harmony and the celebration of good times.
