Untitled: Sajid Wajid Sheikh

by Sajid Wajid

At St+art Mumbai 2017’s Sassoon Dock Art Project, Sajid Wajid Sheikh created a mixed-media installation using discarded materials collected from Mumbai’s streets and landfill sites. Scraps of metal, plastic bottles, staplers and other discarded objects were assembled into sculptural faces, confronting viewers with the material consequences of everyday consumption. The work formed part of St+art’s wider intervention at Sassoon Dock, which brought contemporary art into one of Mumbai’s oldest working fishing communities and encouraged audiences to rediscover a part of the city often overlooked outside its commercial and tourist circuits.
