Untitled: Guido
by Guido
Sydney-based artist Guido builds on the context of spaces he works in. During the Sassoon Dock Art Project, he met Aku from the Slumgods crew, a hip-hop collective in Dharavi that empowers children through hip-hop. Guido spent time in Dharavi, photographing and understanding its vibrant street culture through Aku and his friends. Inspired by this, Guido painted a mural of two boys, Bboy Pro kid and Bboy Abhishek, capturing them mid-dance. The mural symbolizes the future of youth culture and the strength of creativity in Dharavi through dance, graffiti, and hip-hop. It challenges the inaccurate image of Dharavi portrayed to the world. His photorealistic mural adorns two buildings on Jasmine Mill Road in the Mahim (E) Matunga labor camp.
