This must be the place
by Hanif Kureshi, Georgia Hill
Georgia Hill (1988) is a multidisciplinary artist known for hand-drawn type artworks that blend bold, monochromatic textures and lettering in experimental compositions. Her work explores human connections, time, space, and community, aiming to create moments of reflection through detailed designs. Georgia has exhibited her multimedia art in Australian galleries and participated in global street art festivals. Hanif Kureshi (1982-2024) was an Indian artist and graphic designer specializing in street art and typography. He innovated within the genre while honoring traditional Indian hand-lettering techniques, creating murals, installations, and community projects. Hanif founded the Handpainted type project and co-founded St+art India Foundation, with his work showcased at venues like the Venice Biennale and Centre Pompidou Paris. Georgia Hill used the phrase ‘This Must Be The Place’ in street art to explore community belonging. In India, her collaboration with Hanif led to a site-specific version of this theme, featuring the words ‘Must’ and the Hindi word ‘Yahaan’ (Here) within abstract black and white lines. This work reflects on urban belonging, particularly in Lodhi, a neighborhood known for its street art.
