The Sacrosanct Whole
by Aaron Glasson
Aaron Glasson (1983), a New Zealand artist, explores human-nature relationships through surreal, vibrant art grounded in reality, often depicting real people on personal journeys. He works with diverse mediums, including installations, murals, paintings, illustrations, and films, and has showcased his art at festivals like Festival Inspire and Seawalls. As the Creative Director of Pangeaseed Foundation, he promotes ecological dialogue in public spaces through street art.
Glasson's work is rooted in the belief, shared by many indigenous tribes, that all entities possess an inherent life force. Inspired by traditional cultures of India and New Zealand, he combines their elements to highlight an intrinsic bond and the sacred nature of all things.
His art presents a surreal universe of architecture, humans, plants, and objects, inviting viewers to form subjective associations and diverse meanings. Symbols like the threaded chilli and lime for protection, and the fertile pomegranate with metaphysical elements, stimulate the viewer's imagination.
Visuals such as ‘The Dancing Girl’ from the Indus Valley civilisation and bananas symbolizing unity reinforce the concept of nature as a holistic, hyper-connected system.
