Swachh Bharat

Kafeel, from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has lived in Delhi and painted for over two decades. Without formal education, he became a street painter in Old Delhi and is part of Handpainted Type, an initiative to preserve sign painting. In 2018, he attended London Letter Heads for a session on sign painting and design with renowned artists.

Kafeel and his team painted a Swachh Bharat mural in collaboration with CPWD and MoUD, honoring Mahatma Gandhi and promoting cleanliness. St+art India Foundation supports these local street painters, whose art is threatened by digital publishing, to restore its contemporary relevance and convey positive messages.
