Reclaim Air and Water
by Andreco
Andrea Conte (1978), known as Andreco, is an Italian artist and scientist with a doctoral degree in environmental engineering and a postdoctoral degree in green technology. His art explores the relationship between humans and nature, using a unique conceptual and visual language across media such as public installations, drawings, and murals.
In November 2015, after the UN climate change conference in Paris, Andreco launched the ‘Climate Art Project,’ merging art, science, and climate justice through site-specific urban interventions. One project was featured at the Venice Biennale in 2017. His work has appeared in numerous international festivals, museums, and galleries.
The ‘Climate Art Project’ aims to highlight environmental weaknesses in each location and promote solutions for climate justice. In New Delhi, Andreco focused on air and water pollution, creating a mural and parade in Lodhi Colony. The mural depicts the transition from toxic emissions to healthy clouds and wetlands, using ‘Air Ink’ made from real pollutants.
Infographics on the mural, sourced from IPCC, NEERI, and CSE studies, illustrate the link between rising temperatures and pollutant increases. The composition transitions from current pollution to a hopeful future of clean clouds and wetlands, with a central tree symbolizing the fight against climate change.
