Impressions of Lodhi

by Yip Yew Chong

Yip Yew Chong (1969), or YC, is a Singaporean muralist inspired by '70s and '80s Singapore, drawing from old photographs and childhood memories. His murals reflect Singaporean street culture's uniqueness and simplicity, often at eye level for public interaction. After leaving his accounting job in 2018, YC became a full-time street artist, engaging in festivals and community projects. Using his semi-realistic style, YC painted a mural inspired by Lodhi Colony's vibrant market and Lodhi Garden's aromas. The mural evokes nostalgia, capturing the simplicity of Lodhi's landscape, like flute sellers and children on terraces, now rare in New Delhi. It celebrates Lodhi Colony's community spirit, inviting viewers to reminisce and participate in scenes like having tea or visiting a barber shop.
