Dream Futures / Ethirkaalak Kanavugal
by Tina Fung, Osheen Siva
Dream Futures / Ethirkaalak Kanavugal is a large-scale installation by Singapore-based artist and designer Tina Fung and Indian artist Osheen Siva. This project, created in collaboration with St+art India Foundation and the Singapore Tourism Board, explores cultural exchange through a utopian vision that merges Tamilian and Singaporean elements, nature and architecture, and the past with the future.
Visitors enter through face-shaped silhouettes, symbolising human connection and shared cultural journeys. This interactive space encourages exploration and fosters a sense of togetherness. At the centre stands a well surrounded by arches inspired by Peranakan shophouses. Inscribed with Tamil words for ‘community, nature, and imagination,’ it embodies core values essential for building collective futures.
Tamilian motifs like mudras and kolam meet Peranakan tile patterns, creating a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. This design reimagines the past to envision a shared, inclusive future. The installation transforms the concept of utopia into an experiential journey, inviting viewers to reflect on cultural intersections and the potential for a collaborative global future.
