About Dreams and Reality
by Manolo Mesa
Manolo Mesa (1989) is a Spanish artist from Bilbao. He began with graffiti at a young age and now creates paintings that serve as metaphors for life, using photographs and magazine fragments to explore human existence's absurdity. His work examines the relationship between humans and nature, depicting urban landscapes. Manolo’s art is found throughout Europe and Asia. Ceramics, both personal and collective, are a recurring theme in Manolo’s work, symbolizing resistance to industrial homogenization. Through studying handmade ceramics, he recognizes women as the tradition's forebearers in India and other cultures. His painting of a woman partially hidden by a pot honors these knowledge bearers, acknowledging their role in preserving this timeless craft.
